Unity in Action Project
Unity in Action: Building Inclusive Communities Through Sports and Culture is a transformational cultural leadership initiative delivered by the African Sports and Cultural Alliance (ASCA) in New Westminster, British Columbia. The project focuses on strengthening representation, leadership pathways, and equitable access to opportunities for African and Black youth within the arts, culture, and heritage sectors.
Through mentorship engagement, community dialogue, and inclusive governance development, the initiative addresses systemic barriers while creating sustainable pathways for youth participation, leadership growth, and cultural empowerment.
  • Youth mentorship program pairing 25 Black youth with leaders in arts and culture organizations to build skills in leadership, advocacy, governance, and project management.
  • Community roundtable dialogues bringing together representatives from Black communities and cultural institutions to identify systemic challenges and co-create inclusive solutions.
  • Governance and policy capacity-building initiatives supporting organizations to implement equitable recruitment practices and culturally responsive programming.
Impact Vision: The initiative aims to increase representation of Black youth in leadership spaces, strengthen inclusive cultural governance practices, expand mentorship and work-experience pathways, and foster long-term community empowerment through arts and culture engagement.
